1. Youtube has many instructional videos related to this topic (making videos using a phone, selecting the best light, how to make yourself feel more comfortable/confident when creating a video, etc). List 3 videos that you think give good ideas of tips about how to make a good video.
2. List 5 of the tips that will help you the most when creating a video.
3. Watch 3 videos that show a speaker presenting an idea or a topic. For example
- TedTalks; Sarah Brosnan: Why monkeys (and humans) are wired for fairness.
- TedTalks: LeAnn Reninger: The secret to giving good feedback
- TedTalks: Andrew Pelling: Could we treat spinal cord injuries with asparagus?
4. List 5 things that you could copy from the video. For example different camera angles, text to reinforce important points, strategic pauses in speech, photographs etc.
****Note that the purpose of these various elements is to add some additional visual stimuli for the audience. Many of us may not feel comfortable/confident being directly 'on camera' for 3-5 minutes - perhaps we will find that type of video is not engaging enough. As you'll learn from the research requested in this assignment, elements such as different angles, using text or photos, transitions, split screens, etc., serve multiple purposes:
- Engage the audience with different visual elements
- Reinforce content
- Take some of the focus off the speaker (in a way that doesn't dilute the message or the connection with the audience)
