In 1996, Physical Activity and Health: The Surgeon General's Report was released along with the US National Physical Activity Plan. Most recently, in 2018, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans was released.
Several Key Messages were presented in all of the above:
- People of all ages can benefit from physical activity
- People can improve their health by engaging in a moderate amount of physical activity on a regular basis
- Greater health benefits can be achieved by increasing the amount of physical activity, through changing the duration, frequency, or intensity of effort.
1. Explain what you do for yourself in regards to physical activity. What activities do you engage in on a regular basis? Would you consider these activities to be moderate or vigorous? Use the FITT Principle to be specific (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type of Activity)
2. What level of "wellness" would you use to describe yourself? In regards to both physical activity and nutrition/health.
3. How can one motivate themselves and others to engage in physical activity and proper nutrition?
4. What sources do you rely on for sound information and guidance concerning physical activity and nutrition?
