The employment relations systems in the U.S. and Australia may have different cultures and may seem different, but there are some similarities in how they both operate and became countries of their own. When we look at the history, both countries began with Indigenous peoples and land that was later taken over by the British. Both countries also have had a history of unions dating back to the 19th century, however, in the U.S.it has always been a low percentage where currently it sits at 10.3% compared to Australia at 14.3%. No matter the differences, it is interesting to compare how both countries are operating to date and by responding to the questions that are posed throughout this paper, will help us all gain a better understanding of both countries in particular Australia where they have been dealing with opening back up due to COVID and what challenges lie ahead, to having achieved great success in the mining industry, making great strides towards a more diverse culture and country, and to navigate through the every-changing industry of unionism.
