Although right now you do not even think that you may become an HR Specialist, life brings us constant surprises, doesn't it? If you won't end up in an HR career, you may become an owner, thus managing and leading human resources will be in your area of responsibility. If you won't own a business, you will be competing for employment and anything HR will affect your life as an employee of any organization. Whatever the case might be, it is beneficial to expand your knowledge and understanding of the legislation and its impact on the HRM processes and policies. The hiring process might be of special interest to you.  but in this , you are to explore the impact of the legislation on one of the selection tools - the interviewing process.

Read the scenario; research to identify applicable legislation and provide tips on how to interview legally.

Scenario

Imagine that you are an HR specialist working for a private company located in Ontario. The company's HR Director asked you to create an informative document, which would provide tips and directions on how to develop and conduct selection interviews that comply with the applicable legislation. The document is to be created for any employees who would be called to participate as members of a selection interview panel. Your job is to identify applicable legislation and provide directives to ensure legal compliance of the interview process.

Be factual in content but creative in the design of the document. You can use a pamphlet format, create infographics or another creative format. The design of the document should support your goal to convey the information creatively so those members of the interviewing panel who have very little HR and legislation knowledge can understand and absorb the information you are trying to convey.

Investigate:

  1. Identify and briefly describe the legislation that regulates the employment interviewing process
  2. Explain how the applicable legislation affects the development and conduct of the employment interview?
  3. Provide tips on what the organization is allowed and not allowed to ask for under the law.
  4. Explore and explain the rules of accommodations needed under the law.
