Several of your friends who have a background in IT have started a new software company named "Warp 8 software". Their software product, which is aimed at the business market and is currently in the final developmental stage, has Canadian and US copyright, and is currently being tested by some clients. The product enables client firms to more effectively manage their salesforces who work independently from the head or regional office. In order to sell and continue to maintain the software, the company will be hiring teams of software engineers in three different locations in Europe, Asia and South America. This strategy was chosen due to a severe labour shortage in Vancouver and in order to get different skill and perspective people in different locations. These people will be employees of Warp 8 and will be expected to work as completely self managed teams (no formal boss) communicating electronically across international boundaries.

Technical support will be provided by a firm which manages call centres in India and the Philippines. As Warp 8 founders have copyright to their software and as they know that many Canadian firms face challenges in managing a Western Canadian salesforce from Toronto, the company founders expect significant sales of their software around the world, as they believe that companies everywhere must have the same issues. Sales will be online through downloading the purchased product.

They have turned to you, a student of International Business to advise them on this venture.

What issues do you see for this firm and in pursuing its goal of generating sales internationally and employing productive staff internationally?
