The Maxey Tool Company, a manufacturer of specialized household tools and parts, is facing multiple issues related to its applicant screening process. These include theft, illegal drugs, excessive vehicle accidents involving delivery drivers, and high turnover. The Human Resources Department (HR) only checks the present state in which the applicant lives for conviction and driving records. Numerous employees and applicants have lived in multiple states. When conducting reference checks, HR personnel concentrate on closed-ended questions and state the reasons why the company favors the particular candidate. In addi- tion, the HR Department has approved the hiring of candidates who have on their application five or more years of unexplained gaps in employment and education.
