To help improve the practices in your discussion, do you feel this is where a sound job analysis can come into play? When a job is formed in the organization, it is the important process of the job analysis to determine the important competencies that are needed for the job. The process must be carefully conducted to ensure the appropriate content is included in the competency. After the analysis a weighted system can be designed based on the importance of each competency to the job. Once this is done the scale can be assigned to the competency or task. During the appraisal process employee behaviors can be compared against the determined weighed competences. Can this help ensure the appropriate dimensions are part of the appraisal process and employees are appropriately rated for their performance?
