The client, a 6-week-old infant, is brought to the emergency department (ED) by abulance, accompanied by a parent. The emergency medical technician (EMT) reported to the nurse that the client had a 2-day history of cold symptoms and became limp and cyanotic. The parent attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as instructed by 911. Upon arrival of the ambulance, the EMT stabilized the client prior to transport to the hospital.
