According to the International Labour Organization, as of 2002 over 246 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 were subject to child labor. Some of the organizations that employed these children include Walmart (domestically), Nestle, H&M, Starbucks, Nike, and countless others. When you think about child labor, you have to think of the working conditions that make this a crime. Most of these children are punished by missing out on their education in order to complete fieldwork, mine for diamonds/gold/silver or carry bricks. Countless counties including the United States are guilty of using child labors. Review the documents in the support materials to answer the following questions.

-In the United States we embrace young entrepreneurs who build their own small business, should local cities require a minimum age in order to retrieve a business license?

-Thinking about your grandparents or great-grandparents, discuss the difference in them working on the farm in the south and children working in third world countries. If both cases are to benefit and provide for the family, why now is it unethical?

-Do you think the public opinion of child laborers would differ if stipulations and educational rights were in place?

-If you owned a multinational company, what strategies would you take against child laborers? Would you allow it if it is illegal in the country you are building your organization, for instance in India or Guatemala?
