EMAIL Messages Prompt 1: Public safety emergency You are working in the communications division of the Dept. of Public Safety at SDSU. Your role is to draft and send out communications to San Diego State students, faculty and staff about issues that arise affecting general safety, parking, closed streets, and other issues. In the early morning hours (at 2:15 AM) of March 3, a piece of the street collapsed on College Avenue, leaving a massive sinkhole and creating a potentially dangerous situation for motorists. The sinkhole is located on the block of College Ave between Lindo Paseo and Montezuma Road. All the businesses on that block have decided to close for the day. The City of San Diego has blocked off that section of College Avenue, and if entering campus from I8, motorists need to use Canyon Crest Drive and go around the north side of campus to get to parking lots on the west side. Montezuma Road is still completely open for east-west traffic. It is not clear how long the streets will be closed. Draft an email to send to San Diego State students, faculty and staff.
As you draft the email, make sure you
- review the Assignment Description.
- use at least one phrase that is boilerplate language.
- use the appropriate approach (direct or indirect).
- state the problem and the basic information your audience needs clearly and positively without making your audience panic.
- convey the reasons for your recommended action persuasively and equitably.
