Each student who participates in the eligibility process for special education services is unique. The Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) has the responsibility of selecting the appropriate formal and informal assessments that best measure identified student strengths and needs. Teachers must possess knowledge of the characteristics of informal and formal assessments to fully participate as an active member of the MET and subsequently guide educational decision-making.
Refer to the "Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) Case Study," the Diagnostic Assessments Graphic Organizer assignment from Topic 1, and any additional research.
1. Determine which types of assessments (direct, indirect, formal, informal, academic, cognitive, behavioral, and/or functional living) should be administered for the case study student.
2. Identify a minimum of three assessments and defend your selections. These can be from your Topic 1 graphic organizer or another assessment you discovered during research.
3. Include modifications and technology that may be used for the student with moderate to severe disabilities to be successful.
4. Describe how the student is being assessed in all academic, speech, fine motor, gross motor, adaptive behavior, social, emotional, and behavioral areas.
5. Explain the validity and reliability of each assessment chosen as well as how you will use your findings in your future professional practice to identify and report appropriate or problematic behaviors of individuals with moderate to severe disabilities.
