Question

While assessing an elderly male who was unable to get out of bed this morning you note mildly elevated respirations and decreased room air pulse oximetry numbers. His lung sounds are distant on the left side with a consolidation of rhonchi in the mid lobes. This, coupled with a low grade fever lead you to suspect that the patient: has an exacerbation of emphysema has cardiac wheezes secondary to heart failure has a spontaneous pneumothorax on the right side has pneumonia that may be progressing into sepsis.
