ELECTRIC FIELD IN THE ATMOSPHERE
a) Ordinarily there is an electric field in the atmosphere of approximately 100 V/m near the Earth's surface that points downwards. This field drops with altitude and is almost zero at an altitude of 50 km. If the field is 20 V/m at 1.4 km, calculate the average charge density in the air below 1.4 km.
b) Is the charge mostly positive or negative ions?
