EHS5109 Environmental Impact Assessment - Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute

Working with new projects in the UAE:

You are to investigate one new project that is being constructed (or has been recently completed) in the UAE.

You must prepare the following:

Part 1. A presentation of the project;

Part 2. An explanatory meeting (with your assessors). Discuss with your assessor which project you will investigate.
Below are the specific requirements.

Choose just one project which you will use to achieve the tasks for unit: EHS5109

Task 1:Introduction and Aspects Process Model

1.1 Introduction
a)Write an introduction of your project:photos, diagrams, and plans, location, size, number of people, projected income and description.
b) Identify key environmental impacts that the project has had upon the environment

1.2 Aspect Process Model
a) Use the Aspects Process Model (below) to identify the inputs and outputs associated with current activities, products and services;
b) Identify environmental aspects of the organization
c) Identify environmental impacts of the organization
d) Interpret, analyze, and explain what the information is telling you in the Aspects Process Model (1-2 paragraph summary)

Task 2:Evaluate Aspects/Impacts of the Project

Complete the steps below by using the Evaluation of Aspects Table (attached)
a) Outline significance threshold of identified aspects
b) Identify significance criteria
c) Outline qualitative methods of evaluating significance of environmental aspects
d) Outline quantitative methods of evaluating significance of environmental aspects

For each Aspect determine the:
1. Risk Level (1 low, 3 medium, 5 high)
2. Level of Consequence (local, regional, international, and no. of people, severity - injury, serious injury, and death)
3. Environmental Impact (what will happen to the environment in the future)

Task 3 Determine Significance of Environmental Impacts
Complete the steps below by using the Significance of Environmental Aspects Table (below)

a) Outline criteria that can be used to prioritize impacts
b) Determine signification using Aspect evaluation score
c) Outline legislative and regulatory requirements of the project (legacy issues)

Task 4 - Environmental Impact Register

a) Develop an Environmental Impact Register for management.
b) Interpret, analyze, and explain what the information is telling you in the Environmental Impact Register(1 page summary).

Part 2. An Explanatory Meeting (with your assessor).

You are required to meet with your assessor and discuss the contents of your presentation. You should:

• Describe your project;
• Talk about the activities, services or product of the project;
• Describe the impacts on the environment;
• Discuss the ranking of the aspects and the criteria used to rank these aspects;
• Explain how the project should mitigate the environmental risks.
