There were issues of expectancy (Alanis, 2012) in the work required and the varying levels of effort invested into performance and outcomes. There were issues of power (EPM, 2017) not only from sometimes coercive tactics for noncompliance. There were issues of motivation (Goldberg, 2019) with some who were newer in their roles driven by extrinsic motivations (Goldberg, 2019) for status and more established employees driven by intrinsic motivations (Goldberg, 2019) of purpose and doing right by the customer. There were issues of feeling safe (Sinek, 2014) fueled by a general lack of trust and concern that leaders did not have the backs of their employees. There were issues of leader vs. manager (Sinek, 2019) with leaders taking over lower-level work that should have been delegated and a check-up vs check-in (Amabile, 2011) mentality with little autonomy (RSA, 2010) to self-direct decisions.
