PORT 1 - PATCHWORK PORTFOLIO
THE TASK:
Globalisation is the on-going process that is linking People, neighbourhoods. cities, regions and countries much more closely together than they have ever been before. This has resulted in our lives being intertwined with people in all parts of the world via the food we eat, the clothing we wear, the music we listen to, the information we get and the ideas we hold. While globalisation is not a new process, it has accelerated rapidly since World War II, and is having many effects on people, the environment, cultures, national governments, economic development and human well-being in countries around the world Many of these impacts are beneficial, but Jimmy Carter, a former President of the USA. has pointed out that many people are missing out on these benefits. "Globalisation, as defined by rich people like us, is a very nice thing... you are talking about the Internet, you are talking about cell phones, you are talking about computers. This doesn't affect two-thirds of the people of the world" (Jimmy -Carter Quotes & Speeches)
> You are required to research and report based on the patchwork described below.
> Please read this section carefully, so that you are fully aware of what is required of you on this module.
> The assessment we are adopting for this module is what is referred to as a Patchwork Portfolio (PP). A PP differs from a "normal' portfolio in so far as it has a theme which ties all the pieces (patches) together. The final element of the portfolio evaluates how this theme can be traced through the body of work you have produced. For this portfolio the theme you will be asked to consider is "Globalisation: The Concept, Causes, and Consequences" to four patches you must complete throughout the semester are
1. Explain the meaning of globalisation with appropriate definitions. Examine the main reasons that have caused globalisation.
2. Analyse the effects or impacts of globalisation on developing countries.
3. Evaluate the impacts of globalisation on employment and trade.
4. Analyse how globalisation affected lifestyle and culture.
5. Reflective Summary: The final part of your analysis should include your learning outcome from the study undertaken and recommendations. Every recommendation you make should be based on and supported by the context of your analysis.
References: Harvard referencing must be used.
To complete your portfolio and pass this modulo, you must undertake the following
. Complete Parts 1 - 4 (above)
. Write a reflective commentary for Part 5 considering how Parts 1-4 contribute to your understanding of the task.
Note:
Patches 1- 4 are what we term "formative assessment. which means that even though the completion of this work is a formal requirement of this module. this work does not contribute to your Anal grade at the end of the year. Your final grade is determined by the completion of Patch 5. This assessment is what we refer to as -summative".
If you do not complete all aspects of this assessment. formative and summative, you will automatically be deemed not to have completed the work for the semester, and therefore will fail.
