Jet streams carry pollution from China to the United States and Canada. Due to this pollution, it is drastically changing the amount of precipitation that clouds can produce. This could mean less rain and snow for parts of the U.S. It is hard to imagine that pollution in China could affect us in the U.S., but in fact, it does. What is taking place on one side of the world has consequences elsewhere. Scientific studies of cross-continental pollution need to focus on finding ways to lessen the effects of pollution that travels through jet streams. Studies in the lab may be able to suggest ways to limit such contamination.
