First of all it is ridiculous to claim that the prevalence of hate crimes has increased. With just a little study of world history one encounters such people as Vlad Dracula, known as Vlad the Impaler for his practice of impaling victims on a wooden pole. The pole would be inserted in their rectum pushed through their body close to the front of their ribcage so their vital organs would not be damaged and out through their jaw. In many cases they would live for up to two days impaled and elevated about five to ten feet off the ground. The Roman Empire slaughtered tens of thousands of Christians over a period of two to three hundred years. Pogroms against Jews have been carried out over most of recorded history. Witch hunts that targeted women were prevalent for over a thousand years before, during and after the Middle Ages. The American Army undertook a campaign of exploitation, relocation and extermination against the Native Americans during the early to mid 1800's. Large scale slaughter, forced marches and intentional infection with disease were all employed. Nazi Germany in the mid 1900's undertook the grand project of exterminating the Jews on a scale unheard of before. The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia exterminated over one million citizens considered dangerous to the Communist regime of Pol Pot.
