Scenario one is an individual who has a history of treatment and dangerous behaviors with the most recent having them treated, stabilized, and released back into the community stating they will not be getting further treatment. The psychologist is requesting through court mandated treatment on the basis that the client could become dangerous in the future without treatment (University of Arizona Global Campus, n.d.). Asking for a mandatory treatment would not only help the patient but anyone else who might be at risk due to the increased chances of them being violent. According to Verstegen et al. (2020), patients who had a history of violence were at a significantly higher rate for aggression, verbally, sexually, and towards property. Mandating treatment could limit their levels of aggression as well as help control it.
Scenario three is an older lady who is under the care of her daughter. The older woman is requesting to go to treatment but the daughter states that she does not need it and that she can take care of her mother (University of Arizona Global Campus, n.d.). This case may not be considered a mandatory treatment because the patient themselves are requesting the treatment. However, if the daughter has custodial rights over her mother, she may have a say in the treatment and therefore, it being made mandatory could get the mother the treatment she wants.
• What are the ethical principles and implications raised by legally mandating clients into treatment?
• What evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of treatment with and without coercion for this type of situation?
• What would be the challenges in evaluating the effectiveness of mandated treatment?
• How might mandated treatment impact your clinical decision making as the mental health professional assigned to these cases?
• What client factors might limit or augment the potential benefits of treatment if it were mandated?

Scenario # 1
This involves a client who has a history of repeated dangerous behavior but was also treated and released back into the community. The psychiatrist recommends that while being released into the community, the client should still be treated because without treatment the client could potentially become dangerous again (Herron & Klein, 2014),
Scenario #2
In this scenario, an older woman who is weak and wishes to be in psychotherapy but is denied by her daughter who is currently in control of her finances.
