Change management is crucial for effectively implementing practice improvements, especially in the healthcare sector. DNP projects frequently employ change theories to direct the creation, execution, and assessment of treatments designed to enhance patient outcomes. Change is another essential factor of organizational success (Tran & Gandolfi, 2020). Two commonly used theories are Lewin's Change Theory and the Stages of Change theory. Kurt Lewin's Change Theory, which includes the Unfreezing, Change, and Refreezing stages, is commonly utilized in DNP projects due to its simplicity and applicability (Tran & Gandolfi, 2020). During the Unfreezing stage, an established balance is disrupted to facilitate change, which is essential for addressing deeply rooted habits in healthcare environments. DNP projects focused on revising clinical recommendations with new research could benefit from Lewin's approach, which highlights the significance of acknowledging the necessity for change and fostering motivation to depart from the current state. During the Change stage, a change takes place, which may include implementing new protocols or healthcare technology in DNP projects. The Refreezing stage solidifies the change, ensuring its integration into the organization's culture and practice. This step is crucial for ensuring sustainability, a primary focus of DNP programs targeting enduring enhancements in clinical practice. The Stages of Change theory, also called the Transtheoretical Model, was created by Prochaska and DiClemente. It is beneficial for DNP initiatives focused on altering individual behaviors, like patient compliance with treatment programs or lifestyle adjustments for chronic disease management. The concept delineates five stages that individuals go through when making behavioral changes: Precontemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, and Maintenance (Batool et al., 2024). DNP programs focusing on patient education and self-management interventions might utilize this model to customize efforts according to patient's readiness to change. An example of a DNP project addressing obesity could involve utilizing the Stages of Change theory to create a weight management program that assists patients in transitioning from being unprepared to thinking about weight loss (pre-contemplation) to actively participating in weight loss activities (Action) and sustaining their new healthy lifestyle (Maintenance). Project topics aligned with Lewin's Change Theory are the establishment of new therapeutic pathways or the assimilation of evidence-based practices into nursing practices. This notion is beneficial when the project is centered on organizational or systemic change. The Stages of Change theory is more suited for projects focusing on individual patient behavior, including smoking cessation programs or interventions to promote physical activity in patients with cardiovascular disease
