When considering employment, in addition to compensation, benefits are a significant factor considered by prospective employees. Some surveys show that if given a choice between an increase in benefits or a pay increase, most employees would choose the former (Jones, 2017; Glassdoor Team, 2021).
Employers must carefully consider which benefits to offer employees. Although some benefits are legally required, employers can provide many additional benefits to employees if the organization finds a generous benefits package an effective way to recruit and retain employees (Noe et al., 2022)
Some popular benefits are flexible work schedules, wellness programs, retirement packages, paid time off, and work-from-home arrangements (Jones, 2017; Glassdoor Team, 2021).
Other organizations are attempting to offer innovative benefit packages as a way to recruit and retain employees. Some creative benefits seen by organizations trying to be competitive are unlimited paid time off, unpaid time off, and "workations"(Di Meglio, 2021).
Although figures vary, it is clear that employee benefits can be paramount to remaining competitive in a saturated market.
