Assignment Instructions for writing the discussion Post:
Answer/ respond to the questions under the Reading Discussion section AND respond to the questions/statements/scenarios under the Activity Discussion section.
Reading Discussion:
This week we are focused on the early childhood setting.
1. Learning at home is a key factor for young children. What are some resources you might share with a family/caregivers of preschool age children to encourage early learning and social emotional development? Why did you select these resources (rationale for their use)? (These could be good websites to go to, agencies, free tools, games, etc.)
AND
Activity Discussion:
For this activity discussion, imagine you have a new early childhood center and your district determined they need to start using the RtI/MTSS process and would like you to assist in leading in-service training on RtI/MTSS and how this process will look at the Early Childhood center.
You must include:
A. How the RtI/MTSS process will work at the early childhood setting (you might want to make sure they know what RtI/MTSS is before starting).
B. You must include information on universal screening, diagnostic procedures for some students, progress monitoring for at-risk students, and informing outcomes at the systems level (see information starting on page 135 in Implementing Response to Intervention to guide your thinking). So, how will you complete these types of measurements and plan for benchmark screenings?
C. Suggest interventions at each tier level that they might consider using (chapter 6, Effective School Interventions should help you with this, or use other resources). You should provide a rationale for using these. This does not have to be exhaustive but at least one to two interventions at each tier level with a brief rationale on their use.
D. Structure of the teams most appropriate at the EC level, what professionals might be on these teams at the EC level? What role are parents playing in the teams or at the EC level?
E. How will you assure transitions across grade level? Remember, moving from preschool to kindergarten is often a big step for children and their families, so this process must be thought out in advance, particularly for our children who have greater difficulties.
Remember, these are in-service materials, so you might be posting some type of handouts, mock slides (other source similar to PP, if you use google slides you have to give us all permission to view the slides or just upload the slides directly into the discussion post as PDF), or other materials; probably more focus on handouts/informational pages you might use as these should copy into the discussion post better, or a file link to a PowerPoint. So, you are actually creating the materials just as you would for an in-service and presenting those as the discussion.
