Assessment - Narrative digital story: Personal Reflection
Learning Outcome 1: Understand the importance of effective relationship building to positive wellbeing.
Learning Outcome 2: Explore common, contemporary, healthy activities of daily living such as nutrition, activity, hygiene, mindfulness and use of complementary medicines.

Learning Outcome 5: Undertake personal self-evaluation of health care and stress management approaches and identify areas for development, to increase well-being and resilience.
Task Summary
This task requires you to develop a narrative digital story on a self-care strategy that you have trialled or implemented during your time as a student. This could be a strategy that was explored in BAN101 or SCP103, or one that you have subsequently discovered. This is an individual project and your target audience is your learning facilitator.
Context
The reflective narrative digital story aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of self-care practices and your ability to document and reflect on personal experiences, thoughts and emotions. During your professional career, the ability to stimulate a deeper and relatable form of reflective learning and concisely communicating it is an important skill, as is your ability to reflect on your own practice and learning.
This narrative digital story will assist you to recognise and develop resilience to stressors both professionally and personally. You will be:
reviewing, reflecting upon and analysing your current self-care practices and priorities,
measuring these against contemporary practices, definitions, and theories and
building strategies around maintenance and/or improvements of self-care practices.
Understanding the importance of caring for yourself is vital not only to maintain good health and wellbeing, but also to care and educate others to care for themselves, an essential skill in nursing. Nurses are daily working in a very challenging and stressful work environments where we need to manage illness, death and attend to large workloads in busy healthcare environment. To prevent burnout and compassion fatigue it is important to get involved with self-care practices as early as possible in our career.
The digital story assessment provides an opportunity to explore and reflect on important self-care strategies that you could apply in managing work-life balance.
The digital story assessment provides an opportunity to explore and reflect on self-care strategies that you have utilised over the course of your studies and that you maybe continue to utilise as you move forward with your studies and clinical practice, to help you care for yourself.
Instructions
Consider and respond to the following four (5) questions thoroughly in a narrative digital story: In this assessment task, you should:
Identify your areas of concern or development in maintaining health and wellbeing after
completing your personal wellness wheel in module 2.
Adopt deep reflection to consider what is detrimental and good to your health.
Identify self-care practices you could relate to from the videos/podcasts in the learning resources from Module 1 to 4, which could help you address the areas of concern or development.
Consider what is good for your health and wellbeing as well as areas that you would like to change.
Select one effective evidence based self-care strategy and discuss how you can implement it to foster a work-life balance.
What does it involve and why is it important for such self-care strategies to be adopted when working a professional nurse.

This strategy needs to be one that you have maintained a diary of events either by photographs, diary of events, or through the personal reflective journals. This strategy need to positively affect your physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Some example of self-care strategies include and are not limited to:
Exercise and Dietary change
Adequate rest and sleep
Music
Meditation, Yoga and Spirituality
Attending social events
Prepare one digital item, an audio or video file as your final story
Provide audio/text or visual narration to your story that discusses in 5 minutes.
Your video of the narration must be added to the final story.
Draft your responses as in your personal reflective journal in Blackboard. These entries are confidential, only your learning facilitator will review them to check your work progression.
Compile your final responses from the reflective journal entries that you could use it to guide your narrative digital story.
This is an opportunity to demonstrate not only you understanding of the relevance of maintaining evidence based self-care strategies but to exhibit your creativity in telling your own story.
