Case study
Juan Marin is the owner of The Kingston Canoe Co., a medium size canoe manufacturing facility located in Kingston, Ontario. Juan has 175 employees on his payroll. Juan has an office administrator that is assigned Human Resources tasks as Juan doesn't employ a Human Resources employee or a Health and Safety employee.
Juan's holds monthly town hall meetings with his staff. During each meeting, Juan provides business updates, safety updates and allows the employees to ask questions and share concerns. In addition, Juan has installed a lock box where employees can confidentially and anonymously drop off their written questions and concerns for Juan to read before each monthly town hall meeting.
Juan has noticed a theme in the messages from the confidential drop box. Overall, the employees are interested in a lot more training at work. They are interested in safety training, computer skills training and advanced canoe building skills. Juan has his own list of priorities, which includes developing a streamlined recruitment process as it is taking over 4 months to hire a new employee which causes significant issues for his company as the demand for canoes is on the rise.
