Assignment Details
Carry out a risk assessment study on a workplace or work activity to be assessed. Produce a management report on your methods and findings.
The report should include the following: -
• A clear description of the work place or workplace activities to be assessed
• An explanation of the principles of risk assessment and the reasons for carrying out the risk assessments
• An explanation for the risk assessment and how these relate to the particular workplace or activity
Your risk methodology must be in accordance with an accepted quantitative or qualitative method and deemed fit for the purpose intended. Your management report must clearly evidence the following: -
• Your knowledge and understanding of the principles of risk assessment (Key issues, definitions and benefits)
• Knowledge and understanding of the Moral, Social and Economic reasons for carrying out a risk assessment.
• Risk assessment in practice
o Ability to plan the assessment (Appropriateness of approach, organisational skills, suitability of method of assessment and risk rating)
o Analysis of the workplace/workplace activity being assessed (Workplace/work activity description, all hazards identified, all the people/items at risk identified, appropriateness of risk evaluation/risk rating, use of observation, research and communication skills)
o Selection of control measures (Range of appropriate information and the ability to make justifiable judgments, confidence and ability to identify the need for further research and consultation).
o Completion of assessment (Accuracy of documentation, suitability of monitoring and review recommendations, ability to link risk assessment with information and training needs and related issues)
• Overall approach and presentation of report
Approach to the assignment/perception of the problem, demonstration of personal skills especially problem solving, communication, research analysis and team working, presentation of the report, awareness of limits of report and/personal competence

The work must be:
• Word-processed
• Single sided
• 1.5 or double line spaced
• Ariel 12 point font
• Justified
• Page numbered
• On A4 paper
• Margins left and right 3cm
• Stapled together at the top left-hand corner
• Attached to a cover sheet.
Learning outcomes
This assessment will test your ability to meet the learning outcomes as described in your module booklet, specifically:
1. Evaluate current fire, health, safety and environmental issues and its application in industries
2. Prepare risk assessments and evaluate risk for generic industrial activities and for specific workplace hazards
4. Analyse working situations, develop and apply strategies which ensure effective management of health and safety
