Discuss how a grandfather clock (a pendulum clock), accurate at 20oC, will run fast or slow on a hot day (say, 30oC)? Base your answer on physics and the formula for the simple pendulum. Pick a metal or some material and look up the coefficient of linear expansion in the text book. What is the change in length and thus the period? DO NOT use a material somebody else has chosen. Seeing your result, explain how adjustments are made to clocks running too fast or slow because of temperature change. Knowing this, what other things in your home, work or life in general will run differently based on temperature? Does humidity also have an effect on your example? Explain why? Be creative and think about things you use all year long that might be affected by temperature and humidity as far as operation. It does not just have to be an example that affects timing. It could affect operation, size, etc.
