Question 1: The input- Output characteristics of 2 generating plants are given as follows;

H1(MBtu/h) = 749.55 + 6.95P1 + 9.68x10-4 P12 + 1.27x10-7 P13

H2 (MBtu/h) = 1285 + 7.05P2 + 7.37x10-4 P22 + 6.45x10-8 P23

Annual fuel cost is 1.2$/MBtu ; Incremental fuel cost is 9.5$/MWh ;Load Demand = 1000MW.

Calculate the Economic loading from generator 1&2 using analytical method? Show with a proper method how power balance can be obtained in this case.

Question 2: The cost function of 3 generating units are given as following;

C1=7.2P1+0.284P12 + 300 $/h [P1 Min =50MW ;P1 Max=300MW] C2=6.85P2+0.388P22+200 $/h [P2 Min =50MW ;P2 Max=400MW] C3=5.97P3+0.26P32 +100 $/h [P3 Min =50MW ;P3 Max=500MW]

Which generators are to be committed according to priority list method, if load demand is 750MW.

Prepare the shut down algorithm based on Brut force technique method with sufficient calculations if load demand is reducing from 1000MW to 750 MW and maintained in lower limits for 2 hours 45 minutes. Minimum down time for the generator 1, generator2 and generator 3 are 90 minutes, 125 minutes and 100 minutes respectively. Transition cost for generator1,generator2 and generator3 are 250$/h, 300$/h and 450$/h respectively.

What will be your decision as an operational Engineer about shut down of generator in the above mentioned problem and justify with reasons?

Question 3: Prepare a flow chart for the contingency analysis program to be applied in the SCADA system in the load dispatch centre which has a 6 bus system to check the outages with following conditions given below ;
(i) Voltage variation allowed in each bus is + 6% from the Normal 33kV.
(ii) Nominal current rating +10% of rated current in a total load of 300kw load in each phases for 2minute duration.
(iii) Frequency variation allowed is +0.15% of normal 50Hz frequency.

If nominal current in the transmission system goes exceeding the short term ratings set in contingency analysis program and warning display appears in SCADA, What will be the possible outage in the system

and what are the control actions you will adopt as an operational Engineer for bringing this state of power system to Normal state of operation?

Question 4: Prepare a Capacity Outage Probability Table for the Generation system with following units ; Unit 1 ( 15MW with Availability =96%)
Unit 2 ( 10MW with Availability =94%) Unit 3 ( 20MW with Availability =90%) Unit 4 ( 30MW with Availability =92%)

Prepare a flow chart for finding the reliability index of your generation system from the datas accessible to you from Nearest Load dispatch centre.
