Assignment Component 1: SNMP lab report (see more details on the additional supporting materials on SurreyLearn)
Materials to be submitted
• Source code of the software [Assessment weighting: 10%] - to be inspected in week 9 labs (compulsory attendance)

Lab report

The lab report should be brief with 1200-1500 words, and consist of the following:
• Introduction;
• An outline of your program design, in the form of pseudo-code or a flowchart; together with brief notes on any key features of the software;
• Relevant screenshots of your program's output;
• Validation of the UWMA results you have obtained (how you prove they are correct).

Assignment Component 2: Network performance analysis on a real ISP network
Analyse the published Sprint Network QoS performance data with IP / MPLS (including committed values (i.e. Service Level Objectives - SLOs) and the actual values on per month basis): You may select any locations and any published period of time of data as the focus of your analysis. Guidelines are as follows:
• Focus on the discussion of SLO setting strategies against the real performances with regard to the metrics of backbone delay, packet loss and jitter;
• You need to plot at least one performance figure to illustrate your analysis;
• Your analysis needs to lead to some conclusions;
• The analysis should contain minimum 500 words.

Assignment Component 3: Fault management
You have learned a number of IP fast reroute (FRR) schemes and some of them cannot guarantee 100% failure protections. Figure 1 shows a physical network topology with OSPF link weight setting. Consider the following two IP FRR techniques: (1) Loop-free Alternates (LFA) and (2) Simple tunnel-based approach. For each of them identify one single link failure scenario that can be successfully protected, and an alternative single link failure scenario for which the approach is not able to protect. You can choose any link to be protected and any node as affected destination within the network topology that can fulfil the each of the requirements above.

Assignment Component 4: Security management

A shop decides to change to online shopping to due Covid-19 pandemic. They have asked you to design an enterprise network system that enables online shopping with specific security requirements, including:
• The network is to reside in a single business building where the manager's office is located.
• A web server provides the online sales interface which should be accessible by any customer from the public Internet.
• Three secured database servers are required for storing historical transaction data which is only accessible by the company's employees who are working from their own homes.
• A Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server is required for enabling normal email exchanges between employees working from home.
• An internal workstation containing confidential information (e.g. company revenue/profit data, legal documents etc.) which can be only accessed by the manager from his own office.
Your tasks include:

(i) Design a De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) based network configuration and specify the necessary access policies between different network segments separated by inner and outer firewalls. Place each of the aforementioned computing facilities at specific network locations and explain why they should be there.

(ii) Allocate an IP address to each of the servers/workstations mentioned above, as well as router(s) (interfaces) required to implement the DMZ.

(iii) It is required that the manager's workstation is behind a network address translation (NAT) gateway, explain the NAT procedure if the manger launches from his workstation an HTTP request to visit the website of www.google.co.uk.

Assignment Component 5: Mini essay on Net Neutrality

In this module you have learned Quality of Service differentiation techniques including Integrated Services (IntServ) and Differentiated Services (DiffServ) in classical ISP networks. In the context of 5G, the concept of Network Slicing has also been proposed for tailored support of vertical applications with heterogeneous QoS requirements. Meanwhile there has been the argument of Network Neutrality stating that Internet should be neural without prioritising applications/users against one another.

You are asked to write a mini essay on your understanding about network neutrality in the context of those QoS mechanisms you have learned from this module, as well as any additional relevant areas. You need to express your own opinion on this argument with detailed justifications. The essay should contain minimum 800 words.
