Educational Case Study

Educational Case Study of Anita Morrow

The individuals who are directly involved in this case study are:

  1. Mrs. Gregory - ECS teacher
  2. Ms. Sampson - teacher's assistant
  3. Mr. Smith - school resource room consultant
  4. Mrs. Morrow - Anita's mother
  5. Mr. Morrow - Anita's father

Anita is a student in the morning ECS program at Landview Elementary School in Somwehere, Ontario. It is a 500-pupil elementary school (ECS to grade 6). The morning ECS program runs five days per week from 8:30 am to 11:00 am., with all normal school holidays. At this particular time there are 25 children in the morning class - 15 boys and 10 girls. The ECS program utilizes the school gym, art room and computer lab on a weekly schedule and they sometimes use older children as "learning buddies" with the ECS students. The other school staff who may be available in a consultant role are the school district psychologist, learning disabilities specialist and school LPN. However, it is the norm to have assessment requests handled by the local health unit.

Although some initial concerns were expressed at the parent teacher interview in November it was felt that Anita was just experiencing some adjustment problems. However, since Christmas, Mrs. Gregory has become increasingly concerned with Anita's overall lack of progress and inappropriate social interactions with the other children. Now at the end of March, she has requested an information sharing meeting with an ACSW to:

  1. Develop some strategies to assist Ashley in progressing academically.
  2. Recommend placement needs for the next academic year.
  3. Recommend supports for Mr. and Mrs. Morrow to assist them in being more involved in Anita's educational needs.
  4. Recommend supports and strategies for the entire family to be a part of Anita's success at school.

The following information is available for the ACSW at this time:

  • Student: Anita Morrow
  • D.O.B.: October 11, 2016 (5 years old)
