1. To investigate the ecological impact of parasite infections, scientists measured the distance that infected western fence lizards, Scelopons occidentalis, ran in two minutes against a control group of uninfected lizards.  The results are summarized below:

Infected lizards:

n= 18

mean= 24.17 m

s= 9.02 m

Uninfected lizards:

n= 25

mean= 30.14 m

s= 8.30 m

a. Assuming that both groups are normally distributed and have equal variances, did the infected lizards run a smaller mean distance than the uninfected lizards? Show your work and include all steps for full credit. Note: Pooled SE = 2.92 m
