Before taking this class, I knew water was essential to our life. I know that only a tiny portion of Earth's water supply is fresh. About 1.2 percent is suitable for drinking, and the rest is buried underground or in glaciers, permafrost, or ice caps. Most of it comes from streams and rivers. Humans need water to stay healthy and hydrated. Almost every living creature on Earth requires this resource for survival. Animals, as well as plants, need it for growth and hydration. Approximately 70% of Earth's surface is covered by water. Scientists say the hydrosphere holds over 1.36 billion cubic meters of water. Ice also forms part of the Earth; if it melts, the sea level will rise by around 70 meters. Only about a percent of water is used by living organisms and humans. Whether humans, plants, or animals, water is vital to the survival of all living things on Earth. According to experts, life would not have developed without water on Earth. We take for granted the amount of water that is flowing from our taps all around the world. However, this natural resource has many fascinating properties and can be used in various ways.
