An Early Warning Pothole Detection System (EWPDS)

Below are some need statements for a proposed EWPDS and 2 groups of stakeholders’ requirements. Analyze them carefully and come up with 5 Acceptance Criteria and also 3 alternative concepts. Evaluate the 3 concepts for the software and hardware that will drive the detection of the potholes based on the requirements. Use Pugh Matrix for your evaluation and recommend one of the 3 concepts for selection.

Need Statement:

- “Don’t you hate it when you’re in your brand new car and you crack a rim hitting a pothole!”

- Many of today’s cars are equipped with expensive alloy wheels, driving up the cost of car repairs due to pothole

- Older steel wheels are stronger, more resistant to bumps on the road, however are less attractive

- Alloy wheels selected for aesthetics and light weight

Provide an audio and visual warning when a pothole is detected

Pothole warning should occur with ample time for the vehicle to avoid the hazard

System can be turned on/off from the vehicle cabin

When turned on, the system does not require user intervention to operate

The system does not impact the driving performance of the vehicle (acceleration, cornering, braking)

The system does not affect the outward appearance of the vehicle

The initial purchase cost of the system is low

The maintenance costs of the system are low

The system requires infrequent maintenance
