In this third section, we have considered faith and reason. This is a topic that affects us personally as well as societally. Consider all three of these questions within your essay:

Consider the effects of a society without faith (a godless society). For this part, use citations and ideas from Freud, the Churchlands, and the ARC conference. Use citations when you can.
Then consider a society with faith without reason. Consider ideas from Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She raised societies like ISIS and Hamas. She provocatively said, "It's not only the Jewish babies they (Hamas) are beheading, they will behead your babies, Jewish or not if you do not fit into their story." What does she mean by that and how is it related to faith and reason? You only got a taste of this in class but I welcome you to explore it further. Ayaan Hirsi Ali has a lot of material online.
Lastly, what theory and/or philosopher (Anselm, Aquinas, Pascal, Freud, Churchland, Van Inwagen) do you most ascribe to? Do you think the transcendent is important for a well-functioning society? Consider the dynamic between power and the theological virtues (faith, hope, and love).
