I think your selection of Kotter's 8-Step Model will serve you well in working to execute a project with that organization. Having negotiated contracts with their legal team, your focus on communication cannot be oversold here! Additionally, the call out of removing barriers or obstacles, or at a minimum identifying them upfront and collaboratively navigating through them, will make the negotiation process manageable. Also, seeing as Duke Health is a major academic medical center, they pride themselves on being leaders in change and innovation. Addressing this early on will garner the buy-in you need from that side of the relationship.United Healthcare is another animal all to its own. Their sheer size and potential influence over the industry can represent an opportunity or a challenge. You may consider a dual approach early on in getting the support and buy-in from each organization until you reach a mutual agreement to move forward. For approaching and addressing United Healthcare, you may consider the McKinsey 7S Model. The first three stages of Strategy, Structure, and Systems I think will get the conversation going with United given its size and complex business model. Once you get the hook set with them, and you get both parties to the table, aligning on a single change model that suits the project will keep the wheels in motion and get you across the finish line.
