Assessment - Building to think
Learning Outcomes
This assessment addresses the following Subject Learning Outcomes:
a) Apply construction skills to demonstrate creativity and develop conceptual ideas into a variety of 3- dimensional forms to solve a design problem.
b) Apply specified design software skills to create a digital representation of 3-dimensional forms and deliver appropriate design outcomes.
Instructions
Assessment 1 involves creating four finalised material models/sculptures, for which you will also develop digital representations. Use the PowerPoint template provided to insert and display your design outcomes. You will need to keep a record of the design development in a supporting process journal, which will be submitted along with a 500 word critical reflection on the positive and negative aspects of the project and ways to improve on the outcomes for future projects.
Models/Sculptures
In this subject, you will experiment with a range of shapes and forms through folding and manipulation. Employ the skills you have developed to create your initial four models/sculptures. There is no set theme for these models. They should reflect your ability to take risks, to explore potential designs and to generate new ideas.
Digital Representations
You will also undertake workshops that will assist you to create digital representations of your models.
During the digital workshops, you are invited to explore the Adobe Capture App and Adobe Photoshop. Using the knowledge and skill gathered in these workshops, you will be asked to create a digital representation of each of the four models. You should use these digital elements to creatively explore and experiment with the software.
Process Journal
The supporting journal will utilize elements of drawing and photography to document the design process commenced in the workshops. The journal may initially take the form of a paper diary that will then be scanned or photographed for upload to Blackboard.
Critical Reflection
The final element in this task is to critically reflect on the positive and negative aspects of the project and to surmise ways to improve on the outcomes for future projects. This can be included in your journal or submitted in a separate document.
