Problem- One proposed route to make ibuprofen required a Friedel-Crafts Alkylation between 1-bromo-2-methyl propane and 2-phenyl-propanoic acid. This route failed to give the correct product

a) Draw out the structure of the two starting materials

b) Draw out the desired product (ibuprofen)

c) Draw out the actual product you would isolate if you ran ann alkylation reaction using 1-bromo-2-methyl propane and 2- phenyl-propanoic acid.

d) Draw the mechanism showing your arrows and the intermediates you would expect for this reaction. Highlight what step goes wrong to give you the undesired product

e) Suggest an alternate route to make ibuprofen (different starting materials or reactions)
