The medals obtained as a nation by China in the Olympics, Asian Games and South Asian Games reveal that the performances of the players are inadequate with regards to team events. There arises a necessity to study the factors affecting team player performance with particular emphasis on the national level. Some of the factors which are affecting the performance are controllable by the athlete, and some are uncontrollable by them. The crowd, the referee, the opposition, the venue, and the court/pitch surface are all uncontrollable elements. The factors which deal with the cognition of the athletes are the psychological factors, and these are the factors which entail with the behavior of the athletes. Little attention has been given on the research aspect of sports in China. The recent studies focus on the influence of psychological factors on performance to understand the factors which hinder performance or accelerate success. The main drive towards conducting those studies is the poor performance exhibited by the Chinese team sports throughout the international competitions.
