Instruction:

This document contains the requirements for building a computer network that you are required to respond to and submit through the Moodle unit website. There are four sections with some specific requirements in each. Marking criteria are provided on the last page of this document. Carefully read the specifications and the marking criteria before responding to the given requirements.

Case study scenario:

ThingsEngine (TE) is a newly established AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) company in Queensland, Australia. This AIoT company provides smart IoT products to turn your home into a smart home at a low price. The main office of this company TE is in Sydney and the branch offices are in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Brisbane, and Melbourne. Their services include AIoT hardware and software installation, AIoT application management through cloud computing, and so on.

This company has signed a contract with you to design the computer networks and provide suitable solutions for several needed network services. See more details in the following sections.

You need to respond to the related requirements in each section. You should use the answer template provided on Moodle to include your responses.

Section 1: Network Design

For the main office in Sydney, the company TE needs a network for the main office including a wired Local Area Network (LAN) with at least 4 workstations (PCs) and a wireless LAN for 6 local staff for their laptops and smart phones. A router will be used to link these two LANs to an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Network Design Requirements:
S1-R1: You are required to use a drawing tool (draw.io or other software, or Cisco PacketTracer) to draw a network diagram for the main office of this company. Diagram should show the network devices including PCs, laptops, switches, Access Points/wireless routers and any other computer devices, and the types of media/connection between the devices. You should use meaningful names to label all devices in the designed diagram.

Take a screenshot of the designed network diagram and paste it in the response section of the answer template as your solution for this request.

S1-R2: Identify the primary network topology you used in your network diagram and discuss the differences in physical and logical topology design diagrams for this company.
Your responses:

S1-R3: List the needed network devices (real hardware products) and suitable networking media required to build this network. You should justify the selected media you used in this network. e.g., for the wired LAN, the wireless LAN, and the connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Section 2: Network Implementation

The newly established AIoT company will set up an email server in the Brisbane office for all staff. And a file sharing server will be available in their Rockhampton office for all company staff to circulate some project files for further development. These two servers are maintained by the IT staff in the main office in Sydney. The company plans to initially provide several networking services including the following.
An email server for the internal and external communication
A file sharing server for project development
Remote-control service for network management

Network Implementation Requirements:
S2-R1: Draw a TCP/IP layered architecture diagram (only one diagram is needed) showing the protocols that are most likely to be used for these three types of services in each of the top three layers of TCP/IP layered architecture. You are to provide,
The names of these layers.
The acronyms or full names of the needed protocols in each layer (in the top three) of the TCP/IP architecture.
A diagram or a screenshot of a diagram that you have created.
Your Responses:

S2-R2: Discuss how the computers in the offices can be assigned with suitable IP addresses when they are connected to the office network. You need to explain what kind of server is needed for this configuration and how the IP address auto-configuration can be achieved.
Your Responses:

S2-R3: You are required to provide a solution to link the head office located in the heart of Sydney CBD and the branch office in Rockhampton. Suggest what type of network and connection they could consider fulfilling this request. You should include the assumptions you have made in suggesting your solution, considering the different AIoT applications and related services the company will provide using this link between the sites.

Section 3: Cloud Backup and Cloud Security Requirement

While the company will use the local servers in the office for some servers, they are considering cloud services to have a backup server to store their important files. The company requires you to investigate and propose suitable cloud service providers and their estimated costs for the required services.

Cloud Service Providers and Costs
S3-R1: You are to find out at least three different cloud service providers who provide cloud storage services suitable for the company. You should include the provider details, their website addresses, and the services they provide.
Your Response:

S3-R2: You are to find out the estimated cost from each of the service providers you listed in S3-R1 above, for a backup server which is using any operating system. Costs should be included in Australian dollars. You should include the details of how you find out the estimated cost, such as screenshots from the provider websites or related weblinks showing the cost details.

Cloud Security
S3-R3: The company needs you to recommend the security options available for them to consider in securing their confidential information stored in the cloud backup server. You are to find out available options and recommend the best option for them to secure their information in the cloud backup server. You need to justify your selection.

S3-R4: You are to search online and find out a recent cloud security breach incident occurred in Australia within last 12 months. You should list the event and briefly describe what has happened. You should provide the link to website/news article where you found this information.

Section 4: Network Security Enhancement

A project team located in the head office and the Rockhampton branch office of the company are developing an AIoT application. The team communicates regularly and exchange their project development details which is mostly the confidential information, across their company's computer network and over the Internet. To enhance the network and data security across the communication network you are to provide security strategies for their wired and wireless networks, as well as for the network communication between the two offices in Sydney and Rockhampton.

Network Security Enhancement Requirements:
S4-R1: Provide two effective network security enhancement strategies for your designed wired network to be implemented in the main office in Sydney.
