Control of HIV/AIDS. As of 2012, the number of people living worldwide with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/ AIDS) was estimated at 35 million, with 2.3 million new infections per year and 1.6 million deaths due to the disease (UNAIDS, 2013).
Currently there is no known cure for the disease, and HIV cannot be completely eliminated in an infected individual. Drug combinations can be used to maintain the virus numbers at low levels, which helps prevent AIDS from developing. A common treatment for HIV is the administration of two types of drugs: reverse transcriptase inhibitors (RTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs).
The amount in which each of these drugs is administered is varied according to the amount of HIV viruses in the body (Craig, 2004). Draw a block diagram of a feedback system designed to control the amount of HIV viruses in an infected person.
The plant input variables are the amount of RTIs and PIs dispensed. Show blocks representing the controller, the system under control, and the transducers. Label the corresponding variables at the input and output of every block.
What is the largest value of n so that P(Y > 0) = 0.02 and briefly explain why the Bernoulli process assumptions might not hold here.
The following three examples of 12-bit Hamming code words are listed in the following order (with first parity bit on the left and last data bit on the right): For each code below, provide the 8-bit decoded (and corrected, if necessary) data bits
A motorist traveling at a speed of 108 km/h suddenly applies the brakes and comes to a stop after skidding 75 m. Determine
Determine the average time in system, number of passengers completing check-in, and the time-average length of the check-in queue. Put a text box in your model with the numerical results requested.
An inventor claims to have a heat engine producing mechanical power that extracts 25 kW of heat at 400 K and rejects 10 kW of heat at 200 K. Is this claim possible - Plot the heat collected in solar collector, heat loss in the storage, additional ..
Radio Frequency Identification Tags (RFIDs) are being used in ever greater numbers for an increasing diverse number of applications, from libraries to retail shops to Oyster cards.
Describe the method of undertaking an anemometer traverse for a mine airway and describe the two main methods of undertaking a pressure survey in a mine. What advantages and disadvantages do each method have?
Prepare a report on tamping - What is tamping and Working Components of tamping machine.
(a) The mass flow rate of isobutane in the binary cycle, (b) The net power outputs of both the flashing and the binary sections of the plant, and (c) The thermal efficiencies of the binary cycle and the combined plant.
How many Mvars of shunt capacitors are required to increase the power factor on a 10 MVA load from 0.90- to 0.95 lagging - which requires more reactive power, improving a low power-factor load or a high power-factor load?
What would be stakeholders in a project
Liquid water enters at state 3: 10?C, at the rate of 400 kg per hour. A single air vapor flow exits the unit at state 4: 40?C. Calculate the relative humidity of the exit flow and the rate of heat transfer to the unit.
