Organizations need to continually adapt to the dynamic global environment that they operate in. This process of adaptation often requires a transformation of the IS architecture and infrastructure in the organization. For example cloud computing offers organizations the opportunity to pay for an IT infrastructure over the Internet. Savings resulting from reduced server, IT support, human resource and energy costs etc. make cloud computing an easier to deploy and sustainable option for organizations. On the other hand privacy, security, reliability and lock in may make cloud computing a less attractive option. Taking another example bring your own device (BYOD) is transforming client computing by allowing employees, business partners and other stakeholders to use their personal devices to access corporate data and work with enterprise applications. Similar to cloud computing BYOD creates opportunities and presents unique challenges when adapting to changing times.

Question:

As the CIO of a global organization what would you recommend to your CEO who has requested you to draft a plan to transform your organizational IT architecture. The transformation was driven by the need to adapt your organization IT/IS architecture to incorporate emerging technologies such as cloud computing, BYOD, Internet of Things (IOT) and virtualization.
