Topic: Stress
Question 1. What are 3 or 4 sources of stress in your life (or his or her life) and to what extent do they affect you?
2. How stress might be impacting your psychological well-being. What two psychological factors are affected by stress (i.e., memory, motivation/pleasure,)? Explain in detail.
3. How stress might be impacting your physiological well-being. What physiological factors are affected by stress (i.e., accelerated aging, diminished immune system, poor cardiovascular health, more prone to ulcers, increased weight around the waist)? Chose at least three and explain in detail.
4. What is the interaction between stress and social hierarchy? Individuals at different levels of a social hierarchy might be differently affected by stress. Provide two examples from human and non-human primates. What explains this interaction? You will have to think about this as the answer is not explicit in the video. Are people at the top of the hierarchy less stressed out, or do they reach the top because they are less reactive to stress? What implications does this interaction have for your emotional (how you show stress) presence in the workplace?
5. What three strategies you might use to keep stress at bay- in other words, what coping mechanisms you can use to control stress- or what life changes you might need to implement to keep stress at bay (i.e. maybe get more sleep or more exercise). You might need to do a little bit of research to answer this part of the assignment. The American Psychological Association or the American Psychological Society are good resources.
