2. What purpose does your dominant style serve in your life? How is it helpful to you? Reflect on recent stressful experiences in which your dominant style successfully dealt with the circumstances. (Self-acceptance is fundamental to your personal growth. Just as you must honor resistance in your future clients, you must also honor it in yourself!)

3. Sometimes your dominant coping strategies get in your way and might deprive you of getting your needs met as an adult. How has your dominant coping style interfered with your life? How has it compelled you to act in certain ways that might be off-putting to others?

Optional: If you are currently in a situation that is stressful, use that opportunity to deliberately refrain from using your favored style. For example, if moving toward is your dominant style, instead of immediately considering how to please others, focus on your own needs in the situation. Practicing a new style will feel strange and uncomfortable, but it will allow you to become more flexible as you respond to challenges. If you are able to engage in this "experiment" write about how it turned out.
