Students are expected to independently identify Coca-cola, and focusing on a particular aspect/s of CSR and using relevant academic literature in areas of corporate social responsibly and international business, critically discuss

"How can corporate social responsibility strategies be aligned with the conflicting demands of domestic and overseas markets, domestic and overseas employees and communities?"

Expected to use theoretical literature on the topic to develop their perspectives on the analysis of Coca-cola. The stakeholder-shareholder debate (Freeman, 1984; Friedman, 1962) and Elkington's Triple Bottom Line are good starting points, but you may find a wider discussion of critical perspectives in academic literature on stakeholder management in the context of global/international business relevant and useful for examining and discussing your case of Coca-cola corporation. CSR activities take different forms, such as those related to environmental protection, community building, and internal corporate governance (Kolk, 2016), and students are expected to focus on a specific aspect/form of CSR to narrow the focus of their analysis.

The individual essay will:

  • Identify Coca-cola to address the essay topic and make a short description of the company, identifying their key challenges in managing sustainably [ILOs 2,3];
  • Focus on a particular aspect of CSR, critically evaluating/assessing the firm's CSR strategy in the USA and India, using application of relevant theoretical concepts/theory [ILOs 1,2,3,4,5].
