Carp are freshwater fish that thrive in stagnant-water habitats. The partial pressure of oxygen in stagnant water is low compared to moving water. Compared to the hemoglobin of many other fish species, carp hemoglobin has a very high affinity for oxygen; carp hemoglobin binds very strongly to oxygen molecules. Is this trait adaptive (does it help carp to survive in stagnant water)? Explain why you think it is or is not adaptive.
