Assignment:

Answer the following scenarios:

1. Differentiate between the basic components of a risk management program

  • Differentiate the four steps (basic components) of a risk management program and define each step.
  • Apply the four steps to a Release of Information situation that you may encounter in a health care facility or institution. The situation may be hypothetical, or it could be a situation that you have dealt with previously. The situation may also be conditions that are usually encountered in dealing with ROI requests to which the risk management steps and analysis is applied.
  • Describe the situation in enough detail that the steps (components) of the risk management process can be applied. You may utilize the scenario below as a guide, (Metro Medical Center), but do not utilize that scenario or similar circumstance.
  • Support your research with the appropriate APA formatted references regarding the four required steps and how they are applied to your scenario.

2. Release of Information Scenario:

A 21-year-old man presents himself to the release of information (ROI) specialist at Metro Medical Center with a request to access his birth records. The young man stated he was adopted and has recently experienced some health complications that his physician suspects are linked to a possible genetic disorder. If he can confirm whether a genetic disorder exists through his mother, the physician will be able to establish a more positive, less expensive, and evasive treatment protocol for the young man. The adoptive parents were able to provide the name of the hospital where he was born and the name of his mother. The young man is requesting access to his birth record including the medical history of his birth mother who had originally indicated during the adoption process that she wished to remain anonymous. The young man has submitted his name to the State's Adoption Registry in hopes his biological mother will contact him through the registry. Consider the following:

  • Does the young man have a right to his birth record or his biological mother's medical history? If so, what issues need to be considered before the adoptee is provided with this information?
  • Since genetic information is requested is there special circumstances to consider before such information is released?

Make sure you are reviewing specifics as it relates to the release of genetic information and support your position with the appropriate APA formatted references.
