Mya is 37 years old and this is her first session with you. You are able to choose the direction in how you respond to Mya, but remember to embody the principles of intersectionality theory.

I was born in the Dominican Republic. My parents moved to the US, right after I was born. I lived with my grandma until I was seven years old. We then had moved to the US to live with my parents and my siblings. It was good relationship with my mom. I would say she worked at a holding factory and my dad was a doctor in the Dominican Republic, but he was unemployed when he moved to the US. My dad died from cancer. Unfortunately we had a somewhat tense relationship. I get along with my mom and my sister. I been married for 10 years. My husband is also from the Dominican Republic. My two kids are born in the US. My husband and kids see themselves as American. I see myself as a Dominican. Sometimes I'm afraid to lose my identity. My son recently was called the "n" word at school. When he got home he referred to me as the maid. Just hurtful. I'm college educate, part time substitute, and part time mom as well. My daughter has had several heart surgeries since she was 14 months old. I go to church. I was raised as a Catholic. I go to a Christan Church a couple times a week. I am in good health. I feel sort of an irregular heartbeat and sweaty palms in shortness of practice. It's just strange.
