  • What type of sampling strategy was used and how was the sample selected? Probability or non-probability?
  • What was the sample size and was there a power analysis?
  • Were the participants recruited in an acceptable/ethical way? Describe recruitment techniques.
  • Was informed consent obtained?
  • What tools or instruments were used for data collection?
  • Who developed the tool?
  • Have they been tested for reliability and validity?

3. Results

  • Are the results from the study clearly displayed and explained? Are graphs or charts included to visualize the results?
  • Are the results like those found by other studies on the same topic?
  • Was the data analysis outcome statistically significant? ("p" value).
  • Are all important results discussed and are the interpretations consistent with the findings?
  • Were non-significant findings discussed?

4. Discussion/ Recommendations

  • Is the discussion of the results understandable?
  • Is there a conclusive result from the research?
  • Are potential limitations discussed?
  • Are recommendations made for future research?
  • Can the study be replicated?

5. Conclusions

  • Do the conclusions relate logically to the results?
  • Is the data valid and of good quality?
  • Have attempts been made to limit bias?
  • Are the generalizations made appropriate given the sample size and study design?
  • Are implications for nursing practice discussed?
  • Do the strengths of the study outweigh and weaknesses?
  • Can I generalize the results to my population?
