Due to the increasing impact of fake news spread through social media, should governments regulate social media more strongly?
Does social media promote a social lifestyle?
Should governments provide greater access to internet for all citizens?
Structure: Your essay should have FIVE paragraphs:
Introduction: (Paragraph 1)
Should be no longer than 5-6 sentences
Use an attention grabber / hook
Must include a strong position/thesis statement with 3 sub-points written in parallel structure
You may need a transition / bridging sentence to the body
Body (Paragraphs 2, 3, and 4)
Each body paragraph focuses on one of your three sub-points in the same order they are presented in your position/thesis statement
Each body paragraph should follow standard paragraph format that includes:
Transitional word or phrase
Topic sentence
Supporting details for each of your main points in your topic sentence
Point - explanation / analysis - example or other supporting details
Bridge / transition to your next point from your thesis statement
Use logical, convincing support, details, and evidence to support your point
Consider the opposing points of view (limited rebuttal)
Refrain from repetition, fallacies, generalizations
Must be unified, coherent, and well developed
Every sentence needs to relate to your thesis statement or your topic sentence
Conclusion (Paragraph 5)
Include a clincher or closing technique
Use a simple (paraphrased) version of your thesis statement to bring the essay full circle
Do not include any new ideas
Writing Style & Grammar
Use effective, concise word choices. For example, do not use the word "thing"
Watch for the use of the word "this" without using a clear reference following
Speak with authority when defending your position.
Use only 3rd person pronouns
Do not use any contractions
Proofread for accurate sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, subject/verb agreement, pronoun agreement, and subjective words (these need to be eliminated)
Use 12 pt font, indent 1st sentence of each new paragraph, use 1" margins and left justify
Note: This essay is NOT a research essay. All ideas must your own. Most likely you should not need to include referenced ideas.
You must include:
Title Page with an effective essay title
Page numbers on the top right hand
Title on page one
Each paragraph should be indented 5 spaces (one tab stop)
12 point font, Times New Roman or Ariel
Double- spaced
