Argumentative Research Paper
This essay is an argumentative research essay; therefore, the body of the essay should be written in the third-person point of view. You will be required to use at least six secondary (academic) sources. Feel free to use more sources if you wish.
In this essay, you must paraphrase/summarize/quote your sources to support your arguments. This does not mean that you should use each source once and consider this requirement met. Use as many sources as you need in order to convey a clear understanding of what you are trying to argue.

Research Topics & Questions
The following list will apply to the major written assignments for this course, which are your Annotated Bibliography, Thesis Statement & Outline Assignment, AND to your Argumentative Research Essay. Note that there are related assessments (i.e., Online Discussions); the three major assessments build on one another and support you through the writing process for the Argumentative Research Essay. You need to choose one topic only, and ensure that you focus on Canadian content, as you will apply that topic to all the above-mentioned assignments. Your Argumentative Research Essay MUST address one of these provided questions, or it will be returned to you with a grade of zero and no feedback.
Example One:
Chosen Topic: Innovation, Technology and Transparency in Police Culture
Research question:
"Do strong internal cultures in police forces matter?"
A possible answer, in the form of a three-part and parallel thesis statement, could be something along the lines of:
"A strong internal culture in police forces matter because it creates trust, builds transparency, and embodies professionalism."
From our Summary Assignment, we used the "Peel Regional Police on the forefront of innovation and technology in policing" (Snider, 2021). This is a good example of a trade publication article that could be used in your Annotated Bibliography, Thesis Statement & Outline Assignment, and as a source for your Argumentative Research Essay. The Gibbs (2019) article listed below would be a good example of a relevant peer-reviewed journal article that could inform your overall argument.
