Summaize: Here's the test of your emotional church experience: does it produce a change in your lifestyle? I'm not even saying it wasn't God. Many people experience God and yet walk away unchanged. Even the demons believe. The rich young ruler had a direct encounter with Jesus.

He had a face-to-face conversation. And he walked away sorrowful. He walked away from his encounter unchanged. A true encounter with God in worship is not like that. A true encounter produces lasting results. After Jacob struggled with the "man" in genesis 32, he was left with a hip out of joint. He said, "I have seen God face to face," and he walked with a limp. His encounter with God produced a lasting effect. Where Isaiah saw the Lord high lifted up with his train filling the temple, he didn't say, "awesome! God is so good, and I love him so much, and I'm so glad he's my buddy." He said "woe is me! I am undone!" He was changed. And he walked away from that experience with a new posture: "here am I. Send me" (Isaiah 6: 1- 8).
