Summaize: Here's the test of your emotional church experience: does it produce a change in your lifestyle? Do you walk away from that experience and begin to live differently on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? Did you experience Lee to greater levels of holiness, selflessness, and all-around Christlikeness? If not, I would argue your emotionally charged experience was worthless. I'm not even saying it wasn't God. Many people experience God and yet walk away unchanged. Even the demons believe. The rich young ruler had a direct encounter with Jesus.

He had a face-to-face conversation. And he walked away sorrowful. He walked away from his encounter unchanged. A true encounter with God in worship is not like that. A true encounter produces lasting results. After Jacob struggled with the "man" in genesis 32, he was left with a hip out of joint. He said, "I have seen God face to face," and he walked with a limp. His encounter with God produced a lasting effect. Where Isaiah saw the Lord high lifted up with his train filling the temple, he didn't say, "awesome! God is so good, and I love him so much, and I'm so glad he's my buddy." He said "woe is me! I am undone!" He was changed. And he walked away from that experience with a new posture: "here am I. Send me" (Isaiah 6: 1- 8).
